How can we help in a chaotic world?

I started creating this entry after a mental breakdown. The mental breakdown was caused by something silly: I wanted to “save” the world and “make a difference” in the world. I wanted to be someone who creates meaning and contributes to the world positively. Moving to a city like London made me realise my smallness and personal limitations. Unlike in the past where the sky represented the whole world and my own imagination set the boundary of my actions, London is a city that made me realise how little I am in the crowd and in the world. Some friends said that this is a part of real life, and I was spoiled by my own freedom and individualism. However, after these reflections, I still believe and conclude that there are ways that we can contribute to this world meaningfully.

The smallness is real. The personal limitations are facts. The world does not change. Yet, I can create “meaning” differently. This work includes my entire reasoning and answer. It might not be the best answer, but it can be read as a personal account.

My answer to the question “how can we help in a chaotic world?” is really simple. The second part includes my answer. Even though one single individual (even the wealthiest person or the most powerful person in the world) needs other people’s support and validations to achieve what they could & even when a single individual like us may not be able to help in a groundbreaking way (like in the movies or other stories), we can still find our own vocation(s) and practice them. Personally, I know that God is a big part of my vocation, but I am still in the process of seeking more concrete and day-to-day solutions. I do think about a 3-year plan or a 5-year plan vaguely, but I appreciate how one of the ministries from a talk reminded us to also think about our 800-year plan.

Where do you want to be in 800 years?

What is your vocation?
